Symbolism of Nava Durga – The Nine Powers of the Devi
The Nava Durga represents the nine manifestations of Goddess Durga, each worshipped on one of the nine nights of Navaratri:
• Shailaputri – Daughter of the Himalayas, the primal energy.
• Brahmacharini – Embodiment of penance and devotion.
• Chandraghanta – Radiant warrior, bell-sounding destroyer of evil.
• Kushmanda – Cosmic womb creator of the universe.
• Skandamata – Nurturing mother of Lord Murugan.
• Katyayani – Fierce destroyer of demon Mahishasura.
• Kalaratri – Dark form who removes fear and negativity.
• Mahagauri – Goddess of purity and benevolence.
• Siddhidatri – Giver of siddhis (spiritual powers) and perfection.

This golu doll set captures these divine forms in their unique iconography, beautifully finished in vibrant clay craftsmanship. Each kolu bommai figure stands as a guardian of dharma and a beacon of feminine energy.

Navaratri & the Kolu Tradition
• During Navaratri, families across South India arrange steps filled with golu doll representations of gods, saints, and epics—offering devotion and inviting community blessings.
• The kolu bommai arrangement holds deep cultural and spiritual significance, acting as a symbolic staircase to the divine.
• Including the Nava Durga in your dasara dolls setup aligns your celebration with each day’s energy, making your worship intentional and complete.
• This golu bommai set adds power and vibrancy to your Navaratri kolu, blessing your home with the essence of Shakti.

Mythology of Goddess Durga – The Slayer of Mahishasura
According to the Devi Mahatmyam, the goddess Durga was created by the combined energies of all the gods to destroy the buffalo demon Mahishasura. Each of her nine forms reflects different aspects of this cosmic battle—grace, strength, wisdom, fearlessness, and transcendence. This golu doll set is not merely decorative—it’s a living reminder of that sacred myth, empowering your kolu bommai with her victorious presence. The divine narrative of the goddess restoring balance to the universe is central to the dasara dolls tradition and is vividly expressed in this golu bommai.

Golu – A Sacred Heritage of Bhakti & Storytelling
The golu doll tradition, rooted in the royal customs of the Vijayanagara Empire, evolved into a household ritual through generations.
• Kings once displayed dolls to depict stories of the gods and moral lessons. Today, women lovingly set up kolu bommai steps with the same spirit.
• Each dasara dolls setup is a sacred space for community, devotion, and divine storytelling.
• This Nava Durga golu bommai set continues that legacy—uniting faith, art, and feminine power.
